First, a sleeve custom to the pipe's outside diameter is mounted to the pipe and levelled. A valve, the size of the desired cut, is then bolted onto that sleeve. Lastly, our tapping machine will be mounted onto the valve in preparation for the cut to be made.

Once all our equipment has been mounted, we take measurements to ensure we know our travel distance for the cutter and won't accidently cut through the backside of the pipe. After everything is confirmed, the cut can be made.

After making the cut, we retract the tapping machines cutter and close the valve. We are then able to unmount the tapping machine and retrieve the cut portion of the pipe ("coupon") for the employer. This leaves the pipe with a sleeve and valve, ready to be added onto.
